The weight, the grip, the way the shavings are ejected, etc. I feel like everything is more conducive to removing material.<br /><br />My rabbets are typically bedded at 50. <br /><br />If you use a shoulder plane and are happy with it, stick with it. If you feel like it's difficult you should try a wooden rabbet. It's a completely different feel. If I understand you correctly this is mostly because it is easier to set for a more aggressive cut. So - other than speed (fewer passes), *why* is a rabbet plane that much better? Is there some other reason?
